Dear Tennyson Families,
The Noon Hour Programs are back at Lord Tennyson! For families who are new to the school, Tennyson noon hour programs are offered between 12:25pm to 12:55pm after students have eaten their lunch. This lunch program offers an opportunity for students to explore an array of courses from arts and crafts to music, science, dance, sports, and clubs. Class options change each term and courses are taught by experienced and paid instructors (including some Tennyson parents -- past and current). Students get an opportunity to try niche courses that can sometimes be hard to find … all in the convenience of the school setting. Registration for the Fall term starts this weekend and here are the course descriptions. The registration site will open on Sunday night September 27th at 7pm. Sign up early as many of these programs are popular and fill quickly. Classes begin week of October 5, 2015. Registration will be done through the Munchalunch website (just like the Hot Lunch program, you use your same Hot Lunch account info). You can find a link for Munchalunch on the bottom left of the Tennyson homepage (beside the class descriptions). You will need to know your child's division to update your account ... please make sure it is correct. Once you log into Munchalunch, click on the yellow “Fundraising” tab to find the Noon Hour offerings. These programs are operated by the PAC and have charges associated with them. Please note that these programs are not for fund-raising as the PAC operates this on a not-for-profit basis with volunteer coordination and support from the Tennyson Administration for student enrichment. Classes range from $42 to $107, depending entirely on the cost of the instructors and their materials. Some classes qualify for BC Children's Fitness or Arts Tax Credits for tax purposes. You can print your receipts when you order for those that qualify. See www.cra-arc.gc.ca/fitness/ for more info. All payments are due by Friday October 2nd, 2015 and no refunds will be issued after the first week of classes. You may either use the online options (PayPal and credit card), or ensure your cheque (payable to “Lord Tennyson PAC” and with the order number written on it) has been placed in the slot labeled “Noon Hour Programs” outside the school office by that date. We welcome parent feedback and encourage you to send us an email or share your thoughts at a PAC meeting. You can email Gloria Mason at [email protected] for further queries or suggestions Please see the email blast that went out on Thursday, Sep 24 - it has all of the lunch ordering details!
Meet the Teacher and Welcome Back BBQ
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 Come meet your new classroom teacher and plan to have your dinner at the BBQ while supporting Quebec 2017 (all proceeds send next year's Gr 7 students to Quebec). Burgers, hot dogs, drinks, treats ... all for great prices! Meet the teacher presentations: 5:00-5:30 pm and 5:30-6:00 pm BBQ - 5:00-6:30 pm Meet the teacher presentations: 5:00-5:30 pm and 5:30-6:00 pm Classroom teachers will be giving formal presentations this year about their program and classroom routines. You may attend one of the two sessions, either from 5:00 to 5:30 pm or from 5:30 to 6:00 pm. Please arrive on time to your session of choice, as entering past the start time will be disruptive to the teacher presenting and the audience. We are aware that Kitsilano High School is also having their Meet the Teacher night on the same night at 6:30 pm, therefore our sessions will end at 6:00 pm in order for parents to be able to attend both events if required. Students in Divisions 1 and 2 are asked to attend, especially the Grade 7 students, as the teachers have a lot of important information to share. Students in the other divisions may attend, but are asked to sit quietly during the presentation. Please note that the Kindergarten teachers will not be giving presentations but will attend the BBQ. Our Resource Teachers, Mme Nona and Mme Peters, will be in their rooms if you’d like to stop by to say hello. The library will also be open if you’d like to drop in and visit Mme Lyse. Our new PE teacher, Mme Jenna, will also be in the gym if you wish to say hello and welcome her. This event will occur rain or shine. We hope to see you all on Thursday! Please see the following information from a French tutor:
Bonjour ! I have years of experience in tutoring French with great results, to students from primary school to university and I have excellent references validating my experience and skills, as you can see on my website. (See link below) As a native French speaker, I can offer strong support in accent reduction, the tricky subtleties of French grammar as well as idiomatic expressions. I am also familiar with Vancouver School Board’s curriculum. I am a good communicator and I have a solid knowledge of French grammar. Over the past few years, I have also collected many resources and methods to benefit my students. I adapt the lessons to meet each individual student’s needs and learning style. We can focus on grammar, comprehension, reading, pronunciation, conversation or any particular aspect of the French language. For more convenience, I can drive to most neighbourhoods in Vancouver to meet with my students in their residence. For more information, visit my website at www.allons-y-Frenchtutoring.com Merci ! Bienvenue à “Ça tente de Lire” Again this year we are opening the library with this wonderful event. Each primary class is invited to come and read under seven tents. Your child will explore each tent which has a different collection - from hard cover albums to comic books. She/he will have the opportunity to select titles and, later on, borrow his/her choice from the library. The students love this event. All parents from Kindergarten to grade 3 are invited to join and browse in the library and discover Tennyson's collection of reading material. Mme Cynthia's Div 1 (Gr 6/7) class is organizing this popular event with Mme Lyse. When: Tuesday, September 15 Time: 9:30 am – 2:30 Where: Tennyson Library Here is a link to the email blast that was sent to parents on Sunday, Sep 13.
Please sign up here if you did not receive this blast. Have you ever wondered what the Howl's Von Schtinko brothers do in the off-season? This summer they hit Slide the City in North Vancouver for some fun! Rumour has it that even though both Von Schtinko brothers are not Tennyson parents any more, they will still be making their usual appearance at the Halloween Howl! Thank goodness! New to Tennyson? No idea what this is about? Here is some info on our famous Tennyson Halloween Howl. Get ready for some fun! A few staff changes occurred during the summer. Please help us in thanking those who have left us and welcoming those new to Tennyson.
Au revoir Mme Mimi our secretary. Mme Mimi accepted a position at L’Ecole Bilingue as the secretary there retired at the end of June. We wish to thank Mme Mimi for all her hard work during her year at Tennyson. Welcome back Mme Wong, who is returning to Tennyson for the third time as secretary. She previously had temporary contracts at Tennyson and now has a continuing contract with us. Bravo! We are thrilled that Mme Wong was able to return to Tennyson. Congratulations to M. Sylvain who was appointed Vice-Principal with the Francophone school district. We are very sad to be losing M. Sylvain but are happy for him as he embarks on this new adventure. We wish to thank M. Sylvain for all he has done for his students and for Tennyson. He contributed to our community for the well-being of our students in so many ways, and will be missed by us all. Good luck M. Sylvain! Goodbye to Mme Carolyn our SSA- Student Support Worker, who worked with many classes over her two years with us. Mme Carolyn will be moving on to Mckecknie School where her skills are most needed. We wish to thank her for all her work and great care with our students. Mme Carolyn’s position has not yet been filled. A substitute SSA will be at Tennyson in the interim. Mme Mac, our half-time SSA, is also leaving, as some of the students she was working with have left Tennyson. Thank you Mme Mac and all the best in your new school. Unfortunately, Mme Rouleau, nor Mme Halowaty will be returning in September. We are unsure of their return dates at this time but will be keeping their classes updated. Welcome back to Mme Cynthia, who has returned after her maternity leave. We are very happy to have her back. Welcome to Mme Jenna, our new Physical Education and Art teacher, who is joining us from Ecole Hastings. Mme Jenna also has experience teaching in Ontario. Welcome to Tennyson! Welcome to Mme Astrid, who will be joining the intermediate team. Mme Astrid taught at Ecole Laura Secord last year and was also a frequent substitute teacher at Tennyson, therefore she knows our school well. Welcome to the team. Welcome to Mme Larose, who will also be joining our intermediate team. Mme Larose taught at Kerrisdale School last year. We are very fortunate to have her with us this year. Bienvenue! Welcome to Mme Renee, who will be replacing Mme Rouleau during her absence. Mme Renee was a student teacher with us last year and is also a Tennyson alumni! We are thrilled that Mme Renee will be joining us. Welcome to Mme Megan, who will be replacing Mme Halowaty during her absence. Mme Megan taught at Ecole Selkirk last year. We are happy that she is able to be with us. Welcome to Mme Akita, our new strings teacher. She will be here on Monday mornings. |
