Re-introducing Tenny's Tiger Toes - Shoes for Sharing! Too Big? Too Small? But too nice to throw away? There is a donation bin located in the Lost & Found corner. This bin is unique and will NOT contain the random footwear lost daily by our kids but rather, given the huge need out there for new, almost new & (very) gently used footwear, we thought we could try donating year round. Our sister schools on the East side and even our own families may have the next pair of feet waiting for those nice running shoes and rain boots (biggest demand items) that your family has outgrown. So when you're cleaning out your closets, remember to hold onto the shoes and bring them to Tennyson. Tennyson families are welcome to help themselves to shoes from the bin. WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE
Each year the Tennyson school spirit glows with generosity as we receive winter clothing donations from our families to send to the grateful families in our sister schools in East Vancouver. This year, the clothing drive will run from Monday, November 21st to Friday, November 25th. The wet & cold weather is now here and as you pull out the warm clothes, this will give you a chance to to clear out your closets of the pieces your children have outgrown. The biggest need is for coats, boots, sweaters, pants, hats, gloves, etc for ages 0-teens. Clean BLANKETS are also welcome! (Please do not send used socks & underwear.) Please place your donations of clean, good quality clothes & blankets in bags in the boxes near the PAC bulletin board in the front hallway. Thank you very much! If you have any questions, please contact: Nadine Sparks at nadinesparks@gmail.com . Do you have a child born in 2012?
Kindergarten registration starts on November 1st All Kindergarten applicants are required to submit an application to their English catchment elementary school. This includes families who wish to apply for choice programs (French Immersion, Montessori, etc.) and/or a cross boundary placement. The priority registration period for Kindergarten opens on Tuesday November 1st and closes at 4 pm on Tuesday January 31st. Students who submit an application within this priority period will be accommodated before late applicants. If your child was born outside of Canada, you need to report to the VSB District Reception and Placement Centre (DRPC) and complete the initial Kindergarten application there. In a few Vancouver schools there may be more in-catchment applicants than the school can accommodate. For those schools, applicants who applied within the priority registration period (November 1 to January 31) will be included in a draw for available spaces. Students with siblings already in attendance at the school (and who will be attending next year) will be placed prior to the draw. When registering your child please bring: 1. Proof of residence in Vancouver 2. Child’s birth certificate 3. Immigration documentation (if applicable) 4. Immunization records If you want to apply for a Choice program or cross-boundary, you must first apply to your English catchment elementary school. Applications for Choice programs and cross boundary placements will be accepted in early 2017, but only after you have registered at your catchment school. For more information on Kindergarten registration please visit: http://www.vsb.bc.ca/kindergarten Parents must register at their English catchment school before applying for Choice Program(s). Beginning on January 9th, 2017 you can apply to attend a choice program through the online application process. The application period closes in February 6th, 2016. A draw process is used to determine student placements. By late February you should hear back whether you have a space in the school or program. You will be given a formal offer of a space in a Kindergarten choice program or an indication of where you sit on the program waitlist. If you have not heard back by late February, please contact the school Principal of your neighbourhood English catchment school and they will help you find out about your child’s status. The workshops will be held on Wednesday, December 7th and Thursday, December 8th and will be held in grade groupings. An informational meeting for parents will be offered before the workshops start (Tuesday evening, December 6th) in order to support parents and make connections for them with what their children will be learning in school in the days that follow. We are very lucky to have Saleema share her interesting workshops and engaging manner with us and our students for a third year. A big thank you to the PAC for funding and supporting these workshops for our students.
